World Play Day was established in 1997 by the International Toy Library Association and established by the UN to affirm the right to play for all children.
Play is a fundamental right for every child, regardless of their social and economic status. It separates reality from imagination and transcends language barriers: in shelters, it’s not uncommon to find children of different ethnicities playing and laughing, even speaking two different languages.
This is why our volunteers are always looking for new activities to offer hospitalized children: it promotes socialization, increases inclusion, and allows children to process difficult moments through the use of their imagination.
Play thus becomes a moment of entertainment, not just an end in itself, but a way to understand the child’s inner world and accompany them through their hospitalization.
Play is a serious matter!
