On March 9th, a delegation from the Association was invited to a charity lunch in Castagneto Carducci, organized by the Livorno Fratres Territorial Group and several commercial and financial organizations.
We are deeply connected to this association, which already brought us precious gifts for the Pediatric Inpatient Ward over the Christmas period.
It was a Sunday dedicated to sharing and enjoying good Tuscan food, but the lunch was also an opportunity to reconnect with two families we met many years ago along the corridors of the Ospedale del Cuore, a strong bond that has grown over time.
Before lunch, there was a moment of sharing and sharing testimonies: Mayor Sandra Scarpelli’s words were wonderful: “We must not lose our humanity. It’s important to be truly empathetic, to truly feel like a community, a community that leaves no one behind.”
Dr. Nadia Assanta then spoke, describing the hospital experience and sharing her experience of the importance of care, from prenatal to adulthood: “Seeing children I’ve seen since birth here today, and watching them grow, is a tremendous source of satisfaction for us.”
Stefano Di Sandro, a member and father of a young girl with a heart condition, spoke on behalf of the Association: “Diagnoses sometimes cause shock and fear, and sometimes parents fear feeling alone in accepting all that pain; instead, the Association, its volunteers, choose to accompany that pain and live that fear with them, thanks to their smiles and a daily routine of small gestures.”
The testimonies were then concluded by two extraordinary mothers: Maddalena and Federica.
Two stories, two families our association knows very well, having shared so many unforgettable days and moments with them. They shared part of their journey, united by a single word: Thank you.
They offered their heartfelt thanks to the volunteers, doctors, and all the staff who provide comprehensive care for the young patients with love and attention.
All of the day’s proceeds, €5,700, were donated to the Association. On Saturday, March 22nd, we welcomed the Livorno Territorial Fratres delegation with immense joy and surprise. National President Vincenzo Manzo and Mayor Sandra Scarpelli attended. On behalf of all those who participated in the fundraiser, they officially presented us with the donation check.
We cannot help but be grateful for all the love and affection you have shown us. Our mission is to stand by and welcome with all our hearts the families of children with heart conditions.
